WHEN TO CALL A PROFESSIONAL PLUMBER

Water Heater Leaks

If you are experiencing water heater leaking, you may just need a simple repair. Other times it may require a full replacement of your unit. The location of the leaks will help determine what is the best course of action.

Bad Odor from Water

A "rotten egg" odor coming from your water can be due to bacteria reacting with sulfur and other materials in your water tank. This can sometimes be fixed by draining your water heater, while other times your unit may need replacement.

Dirty/Murky Water

Murky brown water is not always a water heater issue, however if it is, then it is likely due to corrosion sediment and rust from your water heater tank itself. Sometimes flushing your tank and replacing the Anode Rod may fix the issue, however, in some cases replacement is necessary.

Thermostat Repair

As with many things, parts do experience wear and tear and sometimes break. Burnt out elements are one of the most common electrical problem found in a water heater. The good news is that these parts are usually easily replaceable.

You Hear Weird Noises

Rumbling sounds coming from a water heater indicate that sediment has built up on the bottom its tank and stops it from operating efficiently, which means less hot water for you. Cleaning and draining your water heater can help, however, replacement is sometimes needed.

This is often caused by a faulty thermocouple, which can begin to malfunction over time. A simple repair may be all you need to get your water heater up and running again.

FAQs

DO I NEED TO REPLACE MY WATER HEATER IF I SEE A LEAK?
There are a number of different reasons why water heaters leak. Finding the location of the leak will give you a much more accurate idea of what may be causing the issue.

Here are some scenarios:
  • Leak coming from the top of your tank -  it is possible that a particular plumbing part or fitting is malfunctioning. These types of leaks can more than often be repaired.
  • Pool of water under and around the water heater - You may have a crack somewhere in the tank itself and will need a water heater replacement.
  • A dripping overflow pipe - the occasional drip is completely normal, however, if it continues to leak more steadily then you may have a more serious issue that needs to be looked at. The overflow pipe serves as a safety valve that relieves pressure from inside the water heater. This helps prevent your tank from cracking, or worse, bursting.

We advise you to skip the guesswork and give us a call at (725)215-7667. One of our skilled technicians will gladly advise you on your best options.
IS USING BROWN OR "RUSTY" WATER DANGEROUS?
You wake up in the morning ready to start your day... you turn on the water to brush your teeth annnnnnd BAM.... a murky flow of brown water pours out.

Why is this happening?

The short answer is.... it depends (yes we know that's not what you wanted to hear but sit tight)

There are a few scenarios that cause water discoloration. Let's run through them:
  • If it's just when you run COLD WATER... it is possible an issue with a specific water supply pipe and not your hot water heater
  • If it's just when you run HOT WATER... then it is likely from corrosion sediment and rust from your water heater tank itself. If flushing your tank doesn't help, you may just need a new Anode Rod to fix the issue instead of a new water heater replacement
  • If it's ALL of your HOT & COLD WATER... then it could be fluctuating water supply issues in either your plumbing system or even as a result of nearby city water lines

Either way, we recommend giving us a call at (725)215-7667 to speak with a skilled Las Vegas water heater repairman. By tackling the issue sooner than later, it may save you unnecessary water heater repair costs.

DO YOU OFFER EMERGENCY WATER HEATER REPAIR?
Water heater emergencies can be time-sensitive situations. We advise you to contact us right away to speak to a licensed plumber.

If you have a serious leak, you will want to minimize damage by turning off the water supply. The location of the leak will help determine where you need to cut off your water supply (the leak may not always be due to your water heater).

If the leak is coming from your water heater...turn off the power source!
  • GAS WATER HEATERS: Turn the knob on top of the thermostat clockwise to the off position. The thermostat is located near the bottom of the water heater.
  • ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS: Go to your circuit breaker panel, find the breaker for your water heater, and switch it to the off position.
If the leak is coming from a plumbing fixture...turn off the water supply!
  • This valve is typically located on the flex line or feed pipe going into the plumbing fixture. It may be just behind or just below the fixture.
Still having doubts?... you can shut off the main water line and give us a call!

For any water heater emergencies, we advise you to give us a call right away at (725)215-7667 to speak with a licensed plumber.
